The Johns Hopkins Open Access Policy requires all full-time faculty to make a version of their peer-reviewed journal articles openly available. This policy aligns with Hopkins’ mission of Knowledge for the World. The policy requires that articles accepted for publication on or after July 1, 2018, where the sole or corresponding author is a JHU full-time faculty, be made openly available.
One method to make research openly available is through the Johns Hopkins Public Access Submission System (PASS). PASS supports simultaneous submission to NIH’s PubMed Central and the institutional repository, JScholarship, thereby aligning funding agencies’ public access and Johns Hopkins University’s open access policy compliance. PASS also supports compliance with the Centers for Disease Control, Administration for Community Living, Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, Department of Veteran Affairs, Food and Drug Administration and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, all of which use PubMed Central for public access compliance. Work is currently going on to add NSF deposit functionality to PASS.
