Occasionally, research and other funding opportunities are offered with conditions that restrict how we handle project-related materials and information, and with whom we can collaborate. For example, project subject matter may be controlled under one or more bodies of export control or sanction program regulations that require that citizens of all or some countries be excluded from all or part of a project. Even more restrictive projects that involve the handling of classified information can require the exclusion of any individuals or organizations that are not officially cleared and that do not have a clear need to access such information.
JHU is an organization having a diverse set of affiliated units, missions, and cultures, which require that it carefully identify the instances in which one or more of its units will or will not pursue work subject to certain kinds of restrictions. The information below will introduce you to JHU policies on restricted research and can give you some idea of whether it would be worth your while to pursue funding for projects subject to those restrictions.
