Research Administrator Staff Recognition Awards

Introduction

This year, to celebrate National Research Administrator day, Johns Hopkins University Research Administration (JHURA) and the Office of Research Administration (ORA) are launching the Research Administrator Staff Recognition Awards. This is an opportunity to recognize the hardworking and talented research administration staff who support the many divisions within JHU.

Award Information

Eligibility

Nominees must be in good standing at the university and employed by one of the divisions supported by JHURA or ORA for a minimum of one year (except for the Rookie Award).

Additionally, research administration staff from central research administration offices (JHURA and ORA) are also eligible for consideration for the Research Administrator Staff Recognition Award.

Awards

  • Rookie of the Year (one award, for someone hired between 01/01/2022 and 12/31/2022)
  • Excellence Awards (one award, an employee that goes above and beyond the expectations of their job)
  • Leadership Award (one award, given to a manager or supervisor of staff)

Nomination and Review Timeline

September  25 – Nominations open
October  27 – Nominations close
October 30-November 3 – Committee reviews nominations and submit scores
Week of November 6 – Committee meets to select winners

Nomination Criteria and Scoring

Excellence/Rookie of the Year Awards:

  1. Examples of the nominee’s significant achievements and contributions related to research administration within the department/center/institute and the school and/or university.
  2. Examples of exemplary service, activities and/or performance in research administration that go above and beyond the expectations for their position.
  3. Examples of how the nominee has exhibited qualities or behaviors that have made them an exceptional team player (including initiative, communication, and helpful attitude) in their role as a research administrator.
  4. Examples of how the nominee demonstrated outstanding commitment and professionalism in research administration.

Leadership Award:

  1. Examples of the nominee’s significant achievements and contributions related to research administration within the department/center/institute and the school and/or university.
  2. Examples of exemplary leadership activities and/or performance that go above and beyond the expectations for their position in research administration.
  3. Examples of how the nominee encourages the professional development and growth of their colleagues.
  4. Examples of how the nominee cultivates a culture of excellence and inclusion.

Scoring

For each award, nominees will be anonymously evaluated across all four categories and will be scored on a scale from zero to four, according to their demonstrated ability in each category.

Awardee Recognition

The awardees will receive the following as recognition:

  • A gift from a predefined assortment
  • An elegant plaque to to honor the achievement
  • An exclusive luncheon with Research Administration leadership, fostering insightful discussions and networking opportunities
  • Recognition of the awardee’s accomplishments through publication of their names including short biographies across JHU media platforms

Nomination Review Committee

Nomination Review Committee Make Up

The review committee will include five people as outlined below.

  • A staff representative from a department
  • A staff representative from a center/institute
  • A faculty member
  • A representative from Johns Hopkins University Research Administration
  • A representative from the Office of Research Administration

Once the nominations close, the committee will review the nominations in accordance with the scoring rubrics and select the awardees.
